If that did not fix it
Dock replaced, one screen still blank
Once both monitors are on separate Thunderbolt ports with video-rated cables and only one lights up, check which side of the Mac the dark one is on. The M4 Pro has Thunderbolt controllers on each side, and a display that works on the left ports but never on the right narrows the fault to that controller or the flex that feeds it. Swap the two monitors between sides to confirm.
A display that fails on both sides but works on another Mac has an EDID or DisplayPort version problem. Note the monitor model and whether it ever worked, then bring the MacBook and both cables to the bench.
The cause, nine times out of ten
Both monitors are on one hub. Apple Silicon will not split that.
The M4 Pro genuinely supports two external displays alongside its own screen, so when only one lights up the machine is rarely at fault. The usual reason is that both monitors are hanging off a single hub or dock. Apple Silicon does not do MST splitting, which is the mechanism that would let one connection drive two screens — so one hub gets you one display, no matter what the hub's packaging says. Give each monitor its own Thunderbolt port on the machine itself.
Cable is the next suspect, and an easy one to miss because it fits perfectly. Plenty of USB-C cables carry power and data but no video at all; a Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 cable is what you need. Two smaller things worth knowing: closing the lid does not free up an extra display slot, and a refresh-rate mismatch can stop the second screen coming up, so dropping one monitor to 60 Hz is a quick way to test.
Apple Silicon has no MST splitting, whatever the dock claims on the box.
Connect each screen directly to the machine rather than daisy-chaining through a dock.
A USB-C cable that fits is not necessarily a cable that displays.
Closing the lid disables the internal screen but does not add an external slot.

Both monitors connected but only one shows up? Here's how to get dual display working on M4 Pro.
The MacBook Pro M4 Pro officially supports up to two external displays at 6K@60Hz plus the built-in screen. Common reasons both don't activate: 1) Both monitors plugged into a single USB-C / Thunderbolt hub - Apple silicon doesn't support MST splitting, so one hub can drive only one display. Connect each monitor to a separate Thunderbolt 4 port on the MacBook. 2) Wrong cable - USB 3.2 / USB-C charge cables don't carry video; use Thunderbolt 4 (40 Gbps) or USB4. 3) Closed-lid "clamshell" mode disables the internal display but doesn't free up an extra external slot - you still get two external monitors. 4) Refresh-rate mismatch - drop one monitor to 60 Hz to test. 5) macOS bug - update to macOS 15.2 or later.

From the bench: what we see with this one
A detail that catches people with this machine is the HDMI port. It is a real HDMI 2.1 output and counts as one of the two external displays, so a monitor on HDMI plus two over Thunderbolt will leave one dark on the M4 Pro. Only the M4 Max drives more. If you need three externals on a Pro, one of them has to go over a DisplayLink adapter, which uses software compression and is fine for documents but poor for colour work or video.
We test these on the bench with the Mac in clamshell mode first, because a loose internal display cable on a laptop can confuse the GPU's display count, and that fault has fooled more than one dock return.
