Why Permissions Come Before Licensing
This is the part most Copilot projects skip and then regret. Copilot inherits the user's existing access, so it surfaces things people technically could always reach but never would have found.
- 01Over-shared SharePoint sites, where inheritance was broken years ago for one urgent request
- 02Files in personal OneDrive that were shared with the whole company and forgotten
- 03Salary, contract and HR documents sitting somewhere with wider access than anyone intended
- 04Old Teams sites nobody owns, still containing live commercial information
- 05The uncomfortable truth: Copilot does not create the exposure, it makes existing exposure trivially easy to find
