What Intune changes

Stop managing laptops one desk at a time.

Without device management, every policy is a visit: someone walks to the desk, or talks a user through a settings menu on the phone. It works at ten staff and quietly stops working somewhere around thirty, at which point configuration drifts and nobody can say which machines are actually compliant.

Intune replaces that with enrolment, policy and conditional access applied centrally. The risk is the rollout itself - compliance policies applied too broadly will lock people out of their own machines on a Monday morning - which is why it goes out in stages and why you get the policy documented at handover.

What Intune Actually Controls

Intune sits between your Microsoft 365 tenant and every device that touches company data. It is not antivirus and it is not a helpdesk tool. It decides which devices are allowed in, what state they have to be in, and what happens when they fall out of that state.

  • Device enrolment for Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, so a new starter's laptop configures itself instead of being built by hand
  • Compliance policies: disk encryption, minimum OS version, screen lock, jailbreak and root detection
  • App deployment and updates pushed centrally, including line-of-business apps that never went near a public store
  • Configuration profiles for Wi-Fi, VPN and certificates, so users never type a shared key
  • Selective wipe that removes company data from a personal phone without touching personal photos

Corporate Devices vs BYOD: Two Different Jobs

The most common Intune mistake in Dubai is applying one policy set to both company laptops and staff-owned phones. They need different treatment, and staff will resist enrolment if they think you can read their messages.

  • Corporate-owned devices: full device management, enrolled at setup via Windows Autopilot or Apple Business Manager, wiped completely on exit
  • Staff-owned devices: app protection policies only, which secure the Outlook and Teams containers and leave the rest of the phone alone
  • What IT can and cannot see on a personal device, written down and communicated before rollout, not after the complaints start
  • A joiner, mover and leaver process so access follows the person rather than lingering after they go

Compliance and Conditional Access

Conditional access is where Intune earns its licence cost. It turns compliance from a report you read into a rule that is actually enforced at sign-in, without adding friction for staff who are doing the right thing.

  • Block company mail on devices that are not encrypted, not patched, or not enrolled
  • Require multi-factor authentication from unmanaged networks while trusting the office
  • Grace periods and clear end-user messaging, so a non-compliant device tells the user how to fix it rather than silently failing
  • Break-glass admin accounts excluded from policy, so a misconfiguration can never lock you out of your own tenant

What Goes Wrong When Intune Is Misconfigured

We are often called in to repair an Intune deployment rather than start one. The failure modes are consistent, and all of them are avoidable with a pilot group.

  • Policies applied to All Users on day one, locking out the finance team mid-month-end
  • Conditional access with no break-glass account, leaving nobody able to sign in and fix it
  • BYOD enrolled as fully managed, which gives IT more control than it wants and more liability than it realises
  • Compliance policies set but never tied to conditional access, so non-compliant devices are reported and then ignored
  • No documentation, so the person who built it leaves and the tenant becomes untouchable

Our main workshop is Office 45 on the 10th floor of Concord Tower in Dubai Media City, with a second Azizi Technologies office at the IT Center Building in Bur Dubai. The nearest metro to Concord Tower is Dubai Internet City, and there is visitor parking (first 15 minutes free, then paid) if you drive.

No appointment is needed during workshop hours, Mon-Sat 9AM-7PM, Fri break 12-2PM · Sun closed. Remote support runs from both offices, and on-site visits are scheduled from whichever is closer to you.

Do we already have Intune, or do we need to buy it?
Many Dubai businesses already own it without knowing. Intune is included in Microsoft 365 Business Premium, E3 and E5, so if you hold any of those you are likely paying for it today. We check your licence entitlements during the audit and tell you plainly whether you need to buy anything at all.
Intune or Jamf for our Macs?
Intune manages Macs perfectly well for mainstream needs and keeps everything in one console. Jamf goes deeper on Apple-specific controls and is the better fit for Mac-first or design-led teams. If your fleet is mixed and mostly Windows, Intune usually wins on simplicity. We will say so if Jamf suits you better.
What can IT see on a staff member's personal phone?
On a personal device enrolled with app protection policies, we manage the work apps only. IT cannot see personal photos, messages, browsing history or call logs. What IT can do is wipe the company data container. We put this in writing before rollout so staff enrol willingly rather than reluctantly.
What happens to a device when someone leaves?
Corporate devices are wiped and returned to a clean enrolled state, ready for the next person. Personal devices get a selective wipe that removes company mail, files and app data while leaving everything personal untouched. Both are triggered from the console, so it works even if the person never comes back to the office.
Can you migrate us from another MDM?
Yes. Migrations from Jamf, Workspace ONE, MobileIron, Meraki Systems Manager and unmanaged estates are routine. The devices have to leave the old platform and join the new one, so we sequence it by department with a pilot group first and clear end-user instructions at each step.
How long does an Intune rollout take?
The pilot group is usually live within the first week or two. Full rollout depends on device count, how many are personally owned, and how much line-of-business software needs packaging. We give you a stage-by-stage timeline after the audit rather than a number before we have seen the estate.
