Why SharePoint projects fail
The mess came with it. So staff went back to email.
Most failed SharePoint implementations we are called into were migrations. Somebody copied a file server that had grown organically for a decade - nested folders eight deep, three versions of every document, permissions nobody could explain - directly into SharePoint. The structure arrived intact, staff could not find anything, and within months everyone was emailing attachments again.
Fixing the structure before moving the data is the difference. So is planning for change: permissions that made sense at the outset need to still make sense after your third staff turnover, and that only happens if they were designed rather than inherited.

SharePoint vs a Shared Drive
A mapped network drive is simple and everyone understands it. SharePoint is worth the change only when you actually need what it adds, so here is the honest comparison.

Get the Structure Right Before Migrating
This is the step almost everyone skips, and it is the one that decides whether the project works. Structure is cheap to change before migration and painful afterwards.
- Decide the site architecture first: one site per department, per project, or per client, and why
- Agree what is a document library versus a list, and what metadata each library needs
- Identify what should not migrate at all. Most file servers are half dead data nobody has opened in years
- Set naming and retention conventions while there is still nothing to rename
Permissions That Survive Staff Turnover
Permission sprawl is the slow failure mode. It starts with one urgent exception and ends with nobody able to say who can see the payroll folder.
- Permissions granted to groups, never to individuals, so access follows the role
- Inheritance kept intact wherever possible, with documented exceptions where it is broken
- Owners assigned per site, so there is a named person responsible rather than a shared IT queue
- A joiner, mover and leaver process wired to your identity setup
- A periodic access review, so exceptions get cleaned up rather than accumulating

If staff cannot find a document in two attempts they stop trusting search and go back to asking a colleague. Search quality is a configuration problem, not a SharePoint limitation.

Office 45, Concord Tower
Our main workshop is Office 45 on the 10th floor of Concord Tower in Dubai Media City, with a second Azizi Technologies office at the IT Center Building in Bur Dubai. The nearest metro to Concord Tower is Dubai Internet City, and there is visitor parking (first 15 minutes free, then paid) if you drive.
No appointment is needed during workshop hours, Mon-Sat 9AM-7PM, Fri break 12-2PM · Sun closed. Remote support runs from both offices, and on-site visits are scheduled from whichever is closer to you.
Where we work on site
Dubai Media City, Internet City, Knowledge Park, Barsha Heights, Bur Dubai, Business Bay, JLT and the wider city from the two offices, with scheduled visits beyond Dubai.
