Apple bonds the glass to the LCD with an adhesive that is difficult to match properly outside its own facilities. On current machines that makes the reliable repair a full display assembly — panel, glass, hinges, antenna, camera and cables replaced as one unit — rather than an attempt to separate the layers. It costs more in parts and far less in returned repairs.
Glass-only work still has a place on older machines where the LCD underneath is genuinely undamaged, and we will offer it when that is the honest read. What decides it is the diagnosis, not the quote: before we price anything we check for cable wear, hinge stress and backlight faults, because a panel fitted onto a failing cable comes back.
