Charging a New MacBook Air First Time: Do This

Modern MacBook Air models use lithium-polymer batteries that don't require an initial deep charge or calibration cycle. You can unbox, power on, and use it immediately. Apple ships them at roughly 50% charge for shipping safety. Plug in the included USB-C charger, complete macOS Setup Assistant, and use the laptop normally. To maximise long-term battery life: 1) Enable Optimised Battery Charging (System Settings → Battery → Battery Health) - macOS learns your schedule and holds at 80% until you need a full charge. 2) Avoid letting the battery hit 0% repeatedly. 3) Don't keep it plugged in at 100% for days on end. 4) Operate in temperatures between 10-35°C - Dubai summers stretch the upper limit, so don't leave it in a car.

The battery is rated for 1,000 cycles to 80% capacity - typically 4-5 years of normal use. Battery replacements available at our Dubai workshop.

If a new Air shows no charge at all with the supplied adapter and cable, go through MacBook not charging before assuming the battery is faulty.

The other thing worth knowing on day one is that a phone charger works. A 20 watt iPhone adapter charges the Air slowly and the Mac shows the lower wattage under Power in System Information, which tells you the port and cable are fine. The supplied 30 or 35 watt adapter is only needed for speed.
