Logic Pro on Mac Studio - the home-team advantage
Logic Pro is built by Apple for Apple Silicon. It uses Apple Silicon CPU and GPU cores efficiently, supports unified memory architecture natively, and has the cleanest plugin scan times of any DAW we have tested. Most Dubai Logic users will find that M5 Max with 64 GB RAM handles every session they realistically build.
On our bench a 2025 M4 Max with 64 GB already carries large Logic Pro sessions with mixed plugin load, including multiple instances of Native Instruments Kontakt, FabFilter Pro-Q 4, Soundtoys EchoBoy and Waves SSL bus compressors. The current M5 Ultra adds the memory for full Spitfire Symphony Orchestra templates.
Ableton Live - the producer favourite
Ableton Live is the DAW of choice for Dubai's electronic and hip-hop producers. Ableton runs well on Apple Silicon natively as of version 12. Two areas where Mac Studio shines: low-latency monitoring at 32-sample buffer with multiple soft-synths, and clip-launch performance during live sessions where Ableton Push or APC controllers drive the workflow.

Pro Tools - still the mixing standard
Pro Tools is the dominant choice in Dubai mixing studios, especially post-production audio houses that serve film and TV (Studio City and DMC clusters). Avid has been catching up on Apple Silicon support after a slow start - current Pro Tools releases run natively and fast.
- M5 Max 64 GB is comfortable for 80-100 track mixes with FabFilter Pro-Q 4, Pro-C 2, Soundtoys and Waves SSL chains
- M5 Ultra for film mixing with 150+ tracks and surround panners
- HDX hardware is not supported - HDX cards need PCIe slots, and Apple no longer sells the Mac Pro, so HDX rooms keep an existing Mac Pro running (we repair them). Native Pro Tools on Mac Studio is the option
- Large Pro Tools sessions open quickly on M5 Ultra from the internal SSD
- Disk I/O is rarely the bottleneck - even the entry-level internal SSD handles Pro Tools playback comfortably
Audio interface compatibility
This is where most Dubai producers run into surprises when they switch to Mac Studio. Apple Silicon dropped some legacy driver support, and certain interfaces need Thunderbolt 4/5 adapters or specific driver versions.

Audio interface compatibility with Mac Studio (tested on M4)
FireWire is dead on Mac Studio
If you still rely on FireWire audio hardware (older Apogee Ensemble, MOTU 828mk2, RME Fireface 800), Mac Studio is not for you without replacing the interface. FireWire-to-Thunderbolt chains via Apple's old adapter no longer work reliably on Apple Silicon - this is the most common Dubai migration headache we resolve.
Studio setup tips for Dubai
Dubai studio environments have specific challenges: building HVAC noise (especially in DMC and Tecom towers), shared power circuits, and dust ingress from the construction-heavy environment. Here is how we recommend setting up a Mac Studio audio rig.
- Place Mac Studio in an isolated machine cupboard if possible - Mac Studio is quiet but not silent under heavy load
- Use a UPS with line conditioning (APC Smart-UPS SMC1500i or Furman PL-Plus DMC) - Dubai power grid spikes can disturb audio gear
- Use balanced XLR cabling for monitors with proper ground lift - building electrical can cause hum on unbalanced setups
- Run a dedicated 16 amp circuit for the studio if you can - shared circuits with office air-con cause ground loops
- Keep Mac Studio raised on a metal stand for thermal headroom - Dubai dust accumulates fast in machine cupboards
- Run Time Machine backup to a dedicated external SSD or NAS - lost sessions are extremely painful
