DaVinci Resolve: M5 Max vs M5 Ultra
DaVinci Resolve is the most demanding common editor in terms of GPU load, especially with Fusion comps and Neural Engine tools (Magic Mask, Speed Warp, Object Removal). When M5 Max is enough
If you do not regularly hit 6K or 8K and your colour grade does not stack 30+ nodes per clip, M5 Max with 64 GB RAM is the sweet spot for most Dubai editors. The jump to M5 Ultra is worth it only if you genuinely live in 6K or 8K or you do heavy Fusion work.
Final Cut Pro - the underrated option
Final Cut Pro is heavily optimised for Apple Silicon and runs absurdly well on Mac Studio. Many Dubai wedding and corporate editors who have not retested FCP since switching to Resolve are surprised how fast it now feels. Background rendering, ProRes export and proxy generation all run faster on FCP than on Resolve for the same hardware.

Adobe Premiere Pro - still the agency standard
Premiere is the default at most Dubai agencies because the broader Adobe ecosystem is non-negotiable for them. Premiere on Apple Silicon has caught up significantly but still trails FCP and Resolve in raw playback performance on the same hardware.

Storage architecture - the part most editors get wrong
Mac Studio internal SSDs are fast (especially 2 TB and above), but they are not the right place to live with terabytes of project media. Dubai editors who treat the internal SSD as primary storage end up with nearly full drives within a year, which kills write performance and causes thermal throttling under sustained load.
The cleanest architecture: internal SSD for OS, applications and current-week scratch. External Thunderbolt 5 SSD (OWC Envoy Pro FX, Sabrent Rocket XTRM-Q) for active projects. Shared NAS (Synology DS1823+ or QNAP TVS-h1288X) for archived projects. Cloud or LTO for cold archive. We deploy this exact stack regularly for Dubai post houses.
Shared storage for multi-editor studios
If your studio has more than two editors, shared storage is mandatory. We typically deploy 10 GbE Synology or QNAP NAS units with SSD cache, connected to each Mac Studio's built-in 10 GbE port. The quote depends on capacity, drive count and how many editors pull from it at once.

Common editor mistakes we see
- 1Buying the cheapest variant assuming you can upgrade RAM later - Apple Silicon RAM is fixed at purchase, you cannot
