    Heat around the trackpad or bottom case during charging can indicate a swelling cell — a safety issue, not just an inconvenience. Stop charging it and bring it in.

    A connection that comes and goes usually means a marginal port or solder joint that will fail completely if you keep forcing the cable at different angles.

My MacBook shows no light at all when plugged in — what's wrong?
Start with the cable and adapter — swap to a known-good Apple or MFi charger first, since a worn cable is the single most common cause. If a different charger also shows nothing, the fault has moved to the port or the board, and it's time for a bench diagnosis rather than guessing further.
The charging light flickers or turns amber then off — is that serious?
A flickering or cycling light usually points to a loose or corroded MagSafe/USB-C port, or a failing charge-control chip on the board rather than the cable itself. It's an early-stage fault that's cheap to fix now and expensive if you keep forcing the connector until the port pins bend.
It charges only if I hold the cable at a certain angle — what does that mean?
That's a port or internal solder-joint fault, not a battery problem. The connector's physical contacts are making intermittent contact, and continuing to use it that way risks snapping the port housing off the board entirely — bring it in before it stops working at any angle.
My MacBook charges but the battery percentage never goes above 1%?
That's typically a battery-health cutoff, not a charging-circuit fault — the pack has degraded to the point the system throttles it as a safety measure. We test cell health on the bench and, in most cases, a battery replacement (not a board repair) resolves it.
Should I keep trying different chargers myself before booking a diagnosis?
Test with one other genuine charger and cable, once — that alone tells you whether the fault is the accessory or the MacBook. Beyond that, repeatedly plugging and unplugging different combinations can wiggle a marginal port connection into total failure, so stop and get it checked.
