Why device controls are not enough
A child finds the way around in about ten minutes.
Controls set on one iPad are exactly that: controls on one iPad. A determined child switches to another device, uses a friend's phone as a hotspot to bypass your network entirely, or finds a browser the restrictions were never applied to. Parents are surprised by how quickly this happens, and how often the workaround is obvious to a ten-year-old.
Layering is what makes it hold. DNS filtering at the router covers every device on the home network including ones you did not know were there, and per-device controls cover the phone when it leaves the house. Neither alone is sufficient; together they are.

Router-Level Parental Controls Dubai
Router-level parental controls filter internet content at the network level before it reaches any device, whether laptop, phone, tablet, games console or smart TV. Because filtering happens at the router, it cannot be bypassed by switching devices or installing a different browser. We configure DNS-based filtering using Cloudflare Family (1.1.1.3), OpenDNS Family Shield, or CleanBrowsing as the DNS resolver on your router, with the following categories blocked by default:
- Adult and explicit content: comprehensive filtering, not just obvious sites
- Gambling and betting sites
- Social media (optional, age-based): Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Twitter
- Gaming sites (optional time-limited): blocked during school hours, allowed after
- Malware and phishing domains, a security benefit for the whole household
Device-Level Parental Controls: iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows
Router-level filtering is the foundation, but device-level controls add time limits and app restrictions that network filtering cannot provide. We configure Screen Time (iOS/iPadOS), Google Family Link (Android), or Microsoft Family Safety (Windows) with per-child profiles.

Preventing Bypass Attempts
A technically curious child (or teenager) will find a way around weak parental controls. Common bypass methods and how we prevent them:
- VPN apps that tunnel around DNS filtering: blocked at router level by disabling common VPN ports; DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) disabled on the router to prevent encrypted DNS bypass
- Changing DNS on the device: router configured to intercept all DNS queries and redirect to the filtered DNS resolver regardless of device settings
- Using mobile data: device-level Screen Time and Family Link limits apply regardless of network; mobile data can be disabled in Screen Time settings
- Creating a new Apple ID or Google account: parental passcode on Screen Time prevents account changes; Family Link requires parent approval for account actions
- Installing a secondary browser: app installation blocked in Screen Time (require parent approval for each app install)

Many Dubai international schools issue iPads or Chromebooks to students. School-managed devices have Mobile Device Management (MDM) profiles that restrict some parental control options. Our main workshop is Office 45 on the 10th floor of Concord Tower in Dubai Media City, with a second Azizi Technologies office at the IT Center Building in Bur Dubai. The nearest metro to Concord Tower is Dubai Internet City, and there is visitor parking (first 15 minutes free, then paid) if you drive.
No appointment is needed during workshop hours, Mon-Sat 9AM-7PM, Fri break 12-2PM · Sun closed. Remote support runs from both offices, and on-site visits are scheduled from whichever is closer to you.
