The step-by-step sell process
Follow the steps in this order and nothing goes wrong at handover. Steps 1 to 4 you can do at home; steps 5 and 6 happen at the workshop or via free pickup. Your written valuation stays valid for 7 days throughout.
Before anything else, back up your MacBook to Time Machine on an external drive or to iCloud. Photos, Mail, Desktop and Documents are the ones people forget. If you left it too late, our technicians can help you export specific folders to a drive you bring, at the workshop, before the wipe.

Never hand over a MacBook with iCloud signed in - Activation Lock will brick it for the next owner and the deal collapses. Sign out of iMessage and FaceTime, then App Store, then iCloud last: System Settings, your name, Sign Out, enter your Apple ID password. Unpair Bluetooth devices too, especially AirPods and Apple Watch.
On Apple silicon Macs (M1 and later) run Erase All Content and Settings from System Settings, General, Transfer or Reset. On Intel Macs boot to Recovery with Command-R, use Disk Utility to erase the APFS volume, then reinstall macOS. If you prefer, bring it unwiped and we perform the erase in front of you and boot to the Setup Assistant so you can see Activation Lock is off before payment.

The single most important step
Every modern MacBook is protected by Apple's Activation Lock, which is tied to your Apple ID through Find My Mac. If you hand over a MacBook while iCloud is still signed in, the new owner cannot set it up - the machine demands your Apple ID password and effectively becomes a paperweight. No legitimate buyer in Dubai bypasses Activation Lock, so the deal simply collapses at that point.
The fix is to sign out in the right order before you leave home. Sign out of iMessage and FaceTime, then the App Store, and sign out of iCloud last - open System Settings, click your name at the top, scroll down and choose Sign Out, then enter your Apple ID password to confirm. On older macOS versions the path is System Preferences, then Apple ID, then Overview, then Sign Out. Unpair Bluetooth accessories too, especially AirPods and an Apple Watch, so they do not stay linked to the sold machine.
If you cannot sign out - a forgotten Apple ID password, a deceased relative's machine, or a former employee's device - do not try to work around it. Bring the original purchase invoice and your Emirates ID and we will help you file Apple's official unlock request. That legal route takes several days, but it is the only genuine way to clear the lock. Anything advertised as an instant bypass is either a scam or trades in stolen devices.
Quick check before handover: after signing out, restart the Mac. If it boots straight to the login screen without asking for your Apple ID password, Find My and Activation Lock are clear. If it still asks, you are not fully signed out - resolve it before you sell. At our workshop we verify this on screen before any payment changes hands.
