How to inspect before you pay

Run Disk Utility First Aid to confirm the SSD SMART status shows no read errors, then physically test every port - USB-C, MagSafe where fitted, HDMI and SD. A single dead port can point to deeper logic-board wear.
Display full-screen solid white, black, red, green and blue images to catch dead or stuck pixels and backlight bleed. Type every key in TextEdit, then test all four trackpad corners plus force-touch. This catches the faults photos never show.
Record and play back a ten-second voice memo to check speakers and mic, connect and disconnect Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and confirm macOS is the latest version the model supports and fully signed out of any iCloud account before money changes hands.
