The non-negotiables
Six things that decide whether a refurbished laptop lasts a full degree or frustrates you within six months. Refuse anything with 8GB soldered RAM or a mechanical hard drive, those are end-of-life machines.
8GB soldered memory ages badly with browser tabs, Teams and Office open together. 16GB is the floor for a machine meant to last a full degree.
512GB is ideal. Never accept a mechanical hard drive (HDD) - it is an end-of-life sign that will frustrate you within months.
Business panels are typically 300+ nits and matte; cheap consumer screens are dim glossy 220-nit panels that strain the eyes in a bright Dubai library.
Insist on guaranteed battery health so the machine survives a full day of lectures. Apple Silicon Airs lead on real-world endurance.
ThinkPad, Latitude and ProBook keyboards are spill-resistant with proper key travel - far better than the mushy short-travel keys on cheap laptops.

The rock-bottom laptop
If a laptop is priced far below everything comparable, the SSD, RAM or battery is almost certainly dying. There is no such thing as a healthy business-class machine at a giveaway figure.
Old consumer refurbished
Consumer-class laptops from 2018 or earlier, the hinges, keyboards and batteries simply do not survive student life. Business-class of the same age is a different story.
Refurbished Chromebooks
Cheap, but locked into ChromeOS with limited app compatibility for UAE coursework. Fine as a second device, wrong as your only university machine.
No-inspection private sales
Buying from a private Dubizzle seller without inspection invites bait-and-switch and stolen-device disputes. Always inspect the actual machine and get a written warranty.
Gaming laptops as your main machine
Heavy, noisy, poor battery, and often more expensive than a MacBook Pro M1 Pro while being worse for actual coursework. A student machine should be portable and quiet.
8GB RAM or a mechanical hard drive
Non-negotiable red flags. 8GB soldered RAM chokes on modern coursework, and an HDD marks an end-of-life machine. Walk away from both.
Every refurbished laptop we sell comes with a written shop warranty, longer on MacBooks, shorter on older Windows machines, covering parts and labour for failures unrelated to physical damage or liquid. Battery health is guaranteed at 85 percent or higher at the point of sale, so we will not sell you a laptop with a tired battery.
An extended warranty out to 24 months is available on most models, request a quote for the add-on. Because we refurbish and service in-house at our Bur Dubai workshop, warranty turnaround is typically 24 to 72 hours, which matters when an assignment is due.
