NAS Configuration Services
Azizi Technologies configures every aspect of your NAS in Dubai - from drives and RAID to permissions and remote access. We configure every aspect of your NAS:
- Hard drive installation and RAID setup (RAID 1/5/6/SHR)
- Shared folder structure and permissions
- Active Directory / LDAP integration for businesses
- Automated backup schedules (PC, Mac, server)
- Remote access (QuickConnect, myQNAPcloud, VPN)
- Surveillance Station / QVR Pro for CCTV recording
- Docker and VM setup for advanced users
Business vs. Home NAS
Business NAS requires Active Directory integration, multi-user permissions, and server-level backup. Home NAS focuses on photo/video storage, media streaming, and family device backup. We configure both expertly.
Sizing a NAS for a Dubai SMB
The most common NAS mistake we see in Dubai offices is buying for today's data instead of year-five data. A NAS is a five-to-seven-year investment, so sizing has to start with three numbers: how much data you hold right now, how fast it grew over the last twelve months, and how many people will read and write to the unit at the same time. From those three inputs we work out bay count, drive capacity, and how much space the RAID level will consume as overhead. Our rule of thumb, refined over Dubai installs since 2007, is to take your current data, double it, and then add roughly a third again as headroom for snapshots, file versioning, and the growth nobody predicted. Concurrent users matter just as much as raw terabytes - twenty staff hammering shared folders at once needs a faster CPU class and more RAM than a two-person studio archiving finished projects, even if both hold the same volume of data.
- 5-15 users with documents and accounting data: a 2-bay or 4-bay unit with mirrored or single-parity RAID is usually right
- 15-40 users or design and media workloads: 4-bay to 6-bay with dual-drive fault tolerance so a rebuild is never a gamble
- Video production, CCTV recording, or imaging archives: 8-bay and up, ideally with 10GbE networking to the editing workstations
- Leave empty bays on day one - expanding drive by drive as data grows is smarter than maxing capacity upfront
- Plan RAM and CPU for concurrent users, not just storage volume - performance complaints are usually compute, not disk
NAS Security Hardening
A NAS concentrates your most valuable files in one box, which makes it a prime ransomware target - attackers who get into a network go looking for the file server first. Factory-default settings are built for convenience, not safety, so every NAS we configure in Dubai is hardened before it goes live. The single most important protection is scheduled, immutable snapshots: point-in-time copies of every shared folder that ransomware cannot encrypt or delete, letting you roll a poisoned share back to an hour before the attack. Around that core we lock down accounts, connectivity, and firmware so the unit stays defensible for years, not just on install day.
- Immutable snapshots on every shared folder with hourly, daily, and monthly retention - the fastest ransomware undo button that exists
- Two-factor authentication (2FA) on every admin and user account, with the default admin account disabled entirely
- Automatic blocking of repeated failed logins and IP-level access rules for anyone connecting from outside the office
- Firmware and package updates applied on a schedule - unpatched NAS firmware is one of the most exploited attack paths in the UAE
- Remote access through VPN rather than ports exposed to the open internet
- A separate, isolated backup of the NAS itself, because RAID protects against drive failure, not against encryption or deletion
Real-World NAS Deployments We Run in Dubai
The best way to understand what a properly configured NAS does is to see how real Dubai clients use theirs. These three scenarios cover most of the installs we deliver, from Free Zone offices to Jumeirah villas, and each one demands a different mix of permissions, performance, and protection - which is exactly why a NAS should be configured around the way you work rather than left on defaults.
- Law office file server: a DIFC legal practice with case files that must stay in the office, permission-separated by team, versioned so any earlier draft of a contract can be pulled back, and snapshotted hourly so a ransomware event or an accidental folder deletion is a ten-minute rollback rather than a crisis
- Media studio archive: a Dubai Media City production house moving finished video projects off expensive editing workstations onto a high-capacity array with 10GbE links, so editors scrub footage straight from the NAS while completed work is archived with dual-drive fault tolerance
- Villa media and family backup: a Palm Jumeirah home running Plex streaming to every TV, automatic photo backup from the family's phones, and Time Machine plus Windows backup for every laptop in the house - one quiet box in the study replacing a drawer full of loose external drives
